Hemodialysis Nursing - Blood & Uremia: A Monograph for Continuing Education 2000 by Joanne D Pittard MS, RN

Author Information

Hemodialysis Nursing by Joanne D Pittard MS, RN The author of this monograph is Joanne D. Pittard MS, RN. The outlined material and graphics are derived from Joanne’s training manual Hemodialysis Nursing Sixth Edition, Version 6.8. The original manual was first published in 1987 as lecture topics and course objectives for the one semester nursing course "Hemodialysis Nursing." That manual is now a six-hundred and seventy-four (674) page outline of her training program. That course has been taught by Joanne at Glendale Community College, Glendale, California since 1975. California legislation in 1984 used that nursing course as the model for training and education for Patient Care Technician (PCT) education and certification. The course now attracts Registered Nurses (RNs) from other states. It is the oldest college level RN program of didactic and practicum dialysis teaching in the United States.

About 1992, at specific request from the publisher and members of the ESRD community, that outlined manual was made available to ESRD educators by mail. The response was and remains remarkable. That response, and the letters asking for more detailed information about dialytic nursing care led to Joanne’s first monograph, "Principles of Dialysis," printed in March 1998. Our advertising consisted of just one direct mailing to RNs in November 1998. Orders for her monograph continue to this time as RNs and PCTs refer their friends to this new source of nursing information.

Joanne’s academic association is:
